Allow me to be blunt…
I’m a few years late in saying this - but regardless of my admitted tardiness - if you’re in business without a good Internet Marketing strategy you’re going to be hurting very soon. I don’t care how much money you’re making right now, it will start to fade away to savvy Internet marketers very soon if it hasn’t already. (No, I will NOT be selling you Internet Marketing in this post)
Since I hate it when people make bold claims like that and don’t back them up, I’ll tell you why I feel so strongly about this.
One of the biggest mistakes self storage marketers make is focusing too much on their facility, product or service. Oooh, that’s important so I’ll say it again:
One of the biggest mistakes you can make in self storage marketing is focusing your energy and message on your facility, product or service.
Why?
Because your prospects don’t care about you.
They don’t care about your fancy new gate, logo, digital sign, management software or whatever you’re excited about!
I know that sounds harsh, but it’s absolutely true.
Self storage prospects are as selfish as they come. They care about their concerns and their concerns only. Actually, to be fair, all prospects are this way. Including you and I.
They do care about their belongings being safe, and their payments being processed accurately, which is a result of good gate systems and management software. But talking about the gate and management software is a waste of your breath.
So, back to Internet marketing. Our society (your prospects) is fastly becoming very comfortable with the Internet. “Google it” and ”eBay” are becoming a part of our language and lifestyle. People buy cars, private jets, concert tickets, music, food and just about everything on the net.
Guess what? This includes self-storage! I heard that over 400,000 people search for self storage every single month!
Before I forget, did you know that if ebay were a country it would be the 5th most populous? Over 200,000,000 people buy and sell stuff on that website! Yes, 200 MILLION people!
Anyway, back to you and self storage marketing on the Internet. People are searching for self storage on the Internet. A lot of people are. And that number will increase over time. If somebody types in “yourcity self storage” and you don’t have representation for them to see, you’re losing money and potential tenants. So, even if you think the Internet is not a good place for self storage operators to be, you can’t focus on what you think, focus on what your prospects want!
The good news for you is this: USstoragesearch.com has teamed up with Inside Self Storage to do a series of 3 webinars (looky there, people even take seminars online) that they promise will teach you everything about self storage marketing on the Internet you need to know. The best part is that they’re paying for this out of their own pocket and have promised me that this isn’t a sales pitch in disguise. I told them they should charge for it, but they’ve insisted that what they have to say is too important for somebody to miss just because they don’t want to pay. So, they stuck with their decision and are doing it with their compliments for you.
I highly recommend you register for this FREE series. You can do so by clicking here.
I hope you find a golden nugget or two in the series!
To higher profits,
